Банкирская автоматическая клиринговая система (БАКС): межбанковская система электронных платежей в Лондоне, взаимозачитывающая платежи между банками-членами и примерно 50000 их контрагентами счета в Банке Англии; через БАКС проходят различные платежи, включая прямые дебеты (direct debits), постоянные поручения (standing orders) на базе магнитных носителей или электронной связи; первоначально создана британскими банками в 1968 г. как Межбанковское компьютерное бюро, с 1971 г. - под указанным выше названием, а с 1986 г. именуется только "BACS Ltd." в связи с превращением в часть "Association for Payment Clearing Services" (см.)
